yep. he's a boy

We're so proud - Jackson wrote his first ever, no help from Mom, sounding it out himself word.

Here it is:

And look! Plural!

This was followed by poo-poo and tee-tee, of course. I figured we might as well run with it, so I made him a thematic word list and told him to get to practicing.

In related news, my darling son asked me if I wanted to see a smoke signal. He then proceeded to turn around and...well...see above.

We're so proud.

brush your teeth little lion

Last week, I heard Kira messing around in the bathroom. Here's what I found:

She's telling me to "top Mommy."

Lots of teeth brushing going on around here. Largely inspired by the "Brush your teeth, little lion" song from Jojo's Circus. Kira's teeth, her baby's teeth, buh-buh's teeth - dang sparkly teeth around here, let me tell you.

"Teeth, Mommy...brush Mommy...Baby? Baby? teeth?...Mommy, baby teeth"

(And yes, those are winter jammies "customized" for summertime.)

handmade christmas - lots o' links

I'll get some photo/updatey posts up soon, really. (Hey, has anyone seen that little cord that hooks the camera up to the computer? Just wondering.)

Anyway, thought I'd share some project links for any of y'all who are doing handmade Christmas projects.

Nested has the cutest project for storing/displaying hair clips. I'm not sure if I'll do this for Christmas, but it's definitely going in my future birthday gifts file. (Found via The Long Thread.)

Fantastic Toys Blog has a cute 5 page downloadable pdf of gnome themed paper dolls, finger puppets, and gnome bowling - I'm using it for stocking stuffers. (Found via Nested.)

One Inch World has a super cute counting bean bags set.

I found that link from this awesome sewing links post from Thrifty Craft Mama. (Cate - there are felt food links in there, too.)
Hope that gets some creative juices flowing for you! Now, I need to stop looking at all these wonderful blogs and get to crafting.

Sweet Baby

Baby Ryan is waiting for his forever family to come and get him. I'd love to click on his page and see that the adoption agency has so many requests that they are sure that his forever family is among them. And he's super cute, too - check him out!

You know you're a mom when...

your daughter walks past her father, sitting on the couch, to deliver a plate to you and request "toast". You, of course, are sitting on the potty.

I saw this over at Ruby's Life and wanted to share it. Thanks for posting it, Cheryl!!

unimaginable really

Jackson and Derek had a little "boys night" computer game playing last night. Overcome by the wonder of it all, Jackson burst out with:

"The computer is a great invention! And think what life would be like without computers! or cars! or light bulbs! or those little things you stick in the ends of your corn cobs!!

Good morning!

I just wanted to put up a quick post to say that after battling tonsillitis for almost a week, I'm finally feeling human again. And I'm so glad that September is here and August is finally over. I'm praying for a boring, uneventful, and HEALTHY September - join me, won't you?

Hope y'all are all doing well! I'll be posting and catching up on all my blog reading this week.

Also wanted to let you know that Down to Earth (a blog I LOVE) now has a forum, if you're interested.
Have a lovely, lovely weekend!
